Manpower Planning Essay In manpower planning Analyzing the current manpower plan Reviewing utilization Finding out current demand Finding out future supply Finally developing a manpower plan The MDI campus Is lush green and has a dedicated area for various Indoor sports and leisure activities Each leisure area requires a dedicated gardener and each such garden/lawn requires manpower planning to estimate the number of gardeners required in the area. Thorough analysis we concluded that the present number of Gardeners are somewhat overstaffed. The staffing is more appropriate during monsoon and rainy season when there is an overgrowth of grass. In other seasons the number of gardeners required is lesser. We interviewed a number of gardeners to ascertain their working habits and methodologies. The findings are documented below: 2. 3. 4. 5. Primary Job: Trimming grasses pruning bushes Secondary Jobs: Keeping the bushes and the plantation in order Soil upkeep and enrichment Cleanliness of the gardens and lawns Pesticide spraying New plantation and expansion of green area Primary analysis results: 1 . Gardeners are normally late and they also are not in their full capacity. At any given time not all the gardeners employed are present. 2. Working hours: 40 hours a week 5 days. 3. Overtime, if required is taken cared of. 4. All the gardeners have one supervisor whom they report to. 5. Few gardeners are cross skilled and may work across domains 6. Each gardener has the same salary which is around 6500 Per month Page 4 The gardens are of three types according to their function: 1 . Sport grounds- 2 namely Golf Course and Football grounds 2. Utility Lawns- 3 namely the Inland Greens, the lawn near CM/Odyssey and Library Greens 3. Leisure lawns- 5 namely the lawns near Lash, the lawn inside Scholars Building, Directors Bungalow and the Staff Quarters and the lawns at the main gate Garden/ Lawn Number of Golf Course Football ground hours/day Reek. 26 Gardeners Reek. 4. 5 3. 5 Inland Greens 21 9 3 2 Lawns at main gate Lawns near CM/ Odyssey Lawns near Lash 14 2. 5 0. 5 Lawn inside Scholars Bungalow Lawns near Staff Quarters 8 1. 5 6 10 Cost analysis We estimated that the manpower planning be done according to the seasonal variations. During off seasons the cross skilled gardeners can be accommodated in other works whereas during on season these same gardeners can be taken back into the gardening work. In this way MDI can optimism the utilization of each gardener even better. Page 5 Recommendations We recommend a change in the number of gardeners required as we promote cross killing of gardeners and each gardener would be then better utilized, the number we came up with was 23 gardeners. The current number of gardeners present are 24 gardeners. Thus, the final number according to us comes out to be 23 gardeners.

The Reign Of Terror Essay -- History Historical Terror Essays

The Reign of Terror   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  History is said to be written by the winners, but is it possible to rewrite history? In a way, the French, like many who have preceded them, and many who will proceed them have done the impossible, rewriting history. From trivial folklore, such as George Washington chopping down a cherry tree, to the incredibly wrong, the African slave trade; people's views of history can be shaped and molded. The French have done a superb job of instilling all of us with the concept that their Revolution was a fight for liberty, justice and the good of all Frenchmen everywhere. Their glorification of the Bastille with it's depictions in painting and sculpture and how the Revolution was the beginning of a new age pales to some of the events during this period. In fact, the storming of the Bastille was merely a hole in the dike, and more would follow. The National Guard, the Paris Commune, the September Massacre, are all words that the French would prefer us not to hear. These events were a subtle dà ©nouementto an climax that was filled with both blood and pain. The Reign of Terror, or the Great Terror, was a massive culmination to the horror of the French Revolution, the gutters flowing with blood as the people of Paris watched with an entertained eye. No matter what the French may claim, if one chooses to open his eyes and read about this tragedy, they are most certainly welcome.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The revolution begins quietly in the fiscal crisis of Louis XVI's reign. The government was running deeply into bankruptcy, and at the urging of his financial advisors, he called the Estates General. The governing body had not been called for almost two centuries, and now it's workings seemed outdated. A small number of people said that the Third Estate, that which was drawn from the towns, should have power to equal the other Estates. Clubs of the bourgeoisie, the middle class, were formed, proclaiming, "Salus populi lex est." It was a simple cry meaning "the welfare of the people is law." To these people, the Estates General was like a pair of shoes that no longer fit. Reformed seemed iminent, the phrase, "The Third Estate is not an order, it is the nation itself" began to circulate.1   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  With much fanfare and circumstance, the three estates were called together. However, on trying to meet, the Third Estate found the doors to t... ...al depiction of man at his worst. The sad truth is that events of this nature have occurred with amazing regularity. Perhaps if the Reign of Terror was just one appalling moment of human cruelty, the world would be a different place. With such things as the Gulag, the Holocaust, the African Slave Trade, and even returning back to ancient times of the Assyrians and the Crusades, man has been known to slaughter his brethren wholesale. We are a race, bred with violence coursing through our veins, and we can do little about it. Perhaps my speculations are wrong, but if such tragedies have occurred over and over, can we truly ever change. The Reign of Terror is just the culmination to the bloodiness and the atrocities of the French Revolution. It is quite ironic that a Revolution based on the ideals of Reason and the fight for the people, would kill over thirty thousand of their countrymen. In conclusion, the Reign of Terror was the climax of this terrible Revolution. The violence and paranoia of the sans culottes, the lust for political power in the convention, and the petty differences of one person to another finally reached a head, exploding into a mass execution.

“Lord of the Flies”: Why Ralph is the Best Leader Essay

In Lord of the Flies, when a group of young boys are stranded on an island and left their own devices, a leader must be chosen. What separates a good leader is someone who cares for the greater good of the group and their well being rather than just caring about themselves. Some of the boys are better leaders than others and through characterization we see who is most capable of being chief. Ralph is the most qualified leader on the island because of his leadership skills, his talent of obtaining order, his unwillingness to let his id take over, and his democratic traditions. Ralphs leadership skills are what gets the boys support and motivates them towards a common goal. Shortly after all the children find each other Ralphs first instinct is that the island should choose a leader. The boys hold an election and because of Ralphs charisma and prestige they elect him. While the other boys are interested in playing and having fun on the island, Ralph is thinking about ways to stay alive and get rescued. Ralph displays his leadership skills through his speeches and presence in front of an audience; he holds a meeting in which he proposes a signal fire and creates a new goal for the island, which is to keep the smoke signal going: A fire! Make a fire, [the boys shouted]. At once half the boys were on their feet (38). By setting rules and boundaries, Ralph creates order and peace on the island like a true leader. Using the conch, which first helped unify all the boys together, Ralph creates a method of organization. He forms a rule that only the person holding the conch, a symbol of order, has the right to speak and may not be interrupted, thus giving limitations to the people. He also enforces rules to help keep the fire burning, which he believes is their only means of being rescued. In order to keep the island tidy, Ralph creates specific areas to go to the bathroom, keep potable water, build shelters, etc. Ralph knows that in order to maintain a civilized society there must be restrictions and laws: We ought to have more rules (42). Ralph is an excellent idol and leader of the island because of his morality and civilized actions during a time of anarchy. As the other boys on the island begin to form their own government, one full of destruction and chaos, Ralph prefers to maintain his moral and educated characteristics. On  their island without parents or police enforcement, the other children begin to lose their humane personas and become primitive, letting their id take over, however, Ralph continues to carry out plans and think with a conscience. When the children on the island loose all control and kill one of the boys Ralph is the only who has a sense of civilization and can realistically evaluate their actions for what it is: That was murder (156). While the other boys on the island loose all conditioning, Ralph remains civilized and preserves his ego. Ralphs characteristics and form of government represents the most fair and pure rule, democracy. He holds a government is which all people take action in political activities; before any decision is made Ralph gives all the boys a chance to give their opinions and be part of the decision-making. Just like in all democratic systems, Ralph offers everybody freedom and equality. Ralphs characteristics of morality, leadership and organization are all major qualities of a democratic ruler. When Ralph sees the Lord of the Flies, a sows skull on a stake, he knocks it down and breaks it into pieces. The smashing of the sows skull symbolizes Ralphs disgust towards totalitarianism and savagery. Instead of the harshness of a military based society Ralph prefers a peaceful society in which all citizens have a voice. When it comes to the greater good of civilization and having a fair administration, Ralph is the best leader on the island. His leadership skills, organizational skills, moral principles, and other democratic character traits are all crucial for a chief to have. Ralph wants what is best for the island and makes sure to get it in a diplomatic way. Through his speaking skills and organization, Ralph can persuade well and have great influence over his people. Ralph is the most excellent leader on the island and represents the finest form of government. Bibliography: Lord of the Flies by William Golding

Infancy and Early Childhood Development Paper – Week 2

Infancy and Early Childhood Development PSY/375 January 21, 2013 Infancy and Early Childhood Development During development from infancy to early childhood many changes take place. There are many factors that affect the development at each stage. Family dynamics can have a profound effect on how a child matures and develops as he or she grows older. There are three parenting styles brought forth by Diana Baumrind that influence development in a particular way. These styles are founded on four central dimensions (Berger, 2011, p. 273). Early childhood education has a significant role in cognitive development. The early years in a child’s life can influence the development of certain skills that allow a child build upon what he or she has already developmentally acquired. There are many aspects that influence a child’s development throughout life. Family Dynamics Affecting Early Childhood Development Family dynamics can have a vital role on the development of infants and y oung children. Children born into an abusive household stand a bigger risk of being affected developmentally than those born into a non-abusive family. Abuse can mean emotional or physical and abuse.Children emotionally abused can have a self-image issue where the individual may feel worthless and this can affect the way a child learns. Physical abuse can result in mental defects that can be associated with poor cognitive ability if the abuse were on or about the head of the child. Another way family can affect the development of infants and young children is through language. During infancy children learn by listening and mimicking what they observe. If a parent talks to his or her child or infant the infant is more likely to pick up on words and develop a speech pattern. It is said that most parents the world over are outstanding teachers (Berger, 2011, p. 172). Other theories regarding development of language in children come from the basis that humans are inherently social creatu res and rely on each other for happiness and the ability to survive. Infants are also thought to teach themselves. Berger  (2011)  stated, â€Å"Noam Chomsky (1968, 1980) and his followers felt that language is too complex to be mastered merely through step-by-step conditioning† (p. 174).LAD (language acquisition device) allows young children to obtain the guidelines of grammar faster and more successfully from speech heard each day, whether it is in their native language or another language. Parenting Styles Influence on Development Baumrind’s three styles of parenting include authoritarian, permissive and authoritative parenting. Authoritarian parenting means that the parents have the final word and their word is law. This means that the child obeys the parents’ instructions, requests and commands. Parents who have this type of parenting style might be considered unaffectionate toward the children.Authoritarian parenting teaches a child not to question aut hority and to follow orders. The next parenting style is permissive. Parents who use this style are often referred to as indulgent. This means that they often â€Å"give in† to their child’s wants and needs. Unlike the authoritarian style that can bring about stern penalties permissive parents use little discipline on their children. Permissive parents are encouraging and tolerant. The third style of parenting is known as authoritative. Authoritative parents have rules and guidelines in place for their children.Parents with this style of parenting are not afraid to enforce the rules and handout punishment that â€Å"fits the crime. † An authoritative parent is usually more willing to forgive a child than punish. This type of parent views him or herself as a parent and not an authority or a friend as in the first two styles of parenting (Berger, 2011). My Choice of Parenting Style The parenting style that I view as most effective is the authoritative parenting st yle. Authoritative parenting seems to be the middle ground between authoritarian and permissive.Whereas authoritative parents are usually ready to forgive, I believe that they are also willing to use discipline when needed. Authoritative parenting styles take a little of authoritarian and permissive and use it to benefit the child. This style that sets limits and also allows the child to have his or her voice heard that in turn lends to maturity. Being flexible and allowing the child to have his or her say can also teach children to respect each other as well as others. Authoritative parenting allows the children to make their own decisions because the rules and guidelines are set.The decision to abide by the rules or break the rules is completely up to the child. The authoritarian parenting style is too strict and structured while the permissive parenting style is too lenient. The middle ground would firmly be authoritative parenting by my views in the subject. Effects of Early Chi ldhood Education on Cognitive Development Early childhood education can have a profound effect on the cognitive development of a child. Early childhood education allows a foundation for children to add to and learn more throughout life.Early childhood education includes skills such as alphabet, numbers, beginning to read and recognize site words. There are many programs around set forth to improve a child’s cognitive development, some even run by our government. Children begin learning as soon as they are born and there are stages where important information can be taught to a child. It is important in early education that the children be stimulated and challenged. In early childhood development young children will go through stages where they will first need to feel secure, experience exploration. This occurs when the child becomes mobile (crawling or walking). Then, the child will want to develop a sense of identity and become more independent. The second stage is considered the preschooler years. This is the time when the child develops better motor skills and balance and also there is an increase in verbal acuity. The final stage occurs when the child hits the primary age group. Reasoning skills, problem-solving skills increase along with written communication develops quickly (Grisham-Brown,  2003-2009). ConclusionIn summation, family dynamics can affect the development of infants and young children in numerous ways. In many cases, depending on the status of a family can affect how well a child learns or comprehends information. The three parenting styles widely in use today are authoritarian; do not question the parents’ word. Permissive is where the parent is very indulgent toward the children and lacks any discipline. The third parenting style is authoritative; the parent is flexible but there are rules and guidelines set in place. Early childhood education is imperative to cognitive development.Early childhood education sets the groundw ork for the later years. Early education gives the children the tools so he or she can build upon the knowledge that was acquired early in life. Reference Berger, K. S. (2011). Enthymeme - Definition and Examples

Enthymeme s In rhetoric, an enthymeme is an informally stated syllogism with an implied premise. Adjective: enthymemic or enthymematic.  Also known as a rhetorical syllogism. Enthymemes are  not merely truncated syllogisms, says Stephen R. Yarbrough. Rhetorical enthymemes reach probable, not necessary conclusions- and they are probable, not necessary, simply because they cannot be governed by the relation of implication, as are all  syllogisms (Inventive Intercourse, 2006). In the Rhetoric, Aristotle observes that enthymemes are the substance of rhetorical persuasion, though he fails to offer a clear definition of the enthymeme. Etymology From the Greek enthymema, piece of reasoning Examples and Observations With a name like Smuckers, it has to be good.   (slogan of Smuckers jams, jellies, and preserves)[M]y parents decide to buy my brothers guns. These are not real guns. They shoot BBs, copper pellets my brothers say will kill birds. Because I am a girl, I do not get a gun.(Alice Walker, Beauty: When the Other Dancer Is the Self. In Search of Our Mothers Gardens. Harcourt Brace, 1983)If you have been healed or saved or blessed through TBN and have not contributed . . . you are robbing God and will lose your reward in heaven.   (Paul Crouch, co-founder of the Trinity Broadcasting Network, quoted by William Lobdell, The Week, Aug. 10, 2007)One of the Soviet Georgias senior citizens thought Dannon was an excellent yogurt. She ought to know. Shes been eating yogurt for 137 years.   (1970s television advertisement for Dannon Yogurt)If its Bordens, its got to be good.   (advertising slogan)Want him to be more of a man? Try being more of a woman!   (advertising slogan for Coty perfum e) An Abbreviated Syllogism In modern times, the enthymeme has come to be regarded as an abbreviated syllogismthat is, an argumentative statement that contains a conclusion and one of the premises, the other premise being implied. A statement like this would be regarded as an enthymeme: He must be a socialist because he favors a graduated income-tax. Here the conclusion (He is a socialist) has been deduced from an expressed premise (He favors a graduated income-tax) and an implied premise (either [a] Anyone who favors a graduated income-tax is a socialist or [b] A socialist is anyone who favors a graduated income-tax).  (Edward P.J. Corbett and Robert J. Connors, Classical Rhetoric for the Modern Student, 4th ed. Oxford University Press, 1999) The Persuasive Power of the Enthymeme Aristotle appreciated the persuasive power of enthymeme because he was well aware that when it comes to everyday speaking and writing, an argument doesn’t have to be watertight to be taken seriously. In his treatise On Rhetoric, he offered three important tips to would-be persuaders. What your audience thinks of you really mattersif they don’t trust you, you’re toast [ethos]. What you say, or write, has to make people feel something [pathos]. And your argument must be put together with a particular audience in mind because an argument aimed at every target inevitably misses all of them. The  guess what’s in my head  component of enthymeme makes listening to a speech fun for an audience. And by inviting them to supply the missing piece of an argument, enthymeme fosters a bond of intimacy between speakeror writerand audience. An audience that is actively involved in the creation of a shared messageespecially one that reflects their beliefs and prejudicesi s much more likely to feel the rightness of what is being argued than one that isn’t. For Aristotle, enthymeme was the flesh and blood of proof. Little wonder professional persuaders of all flavors just can’t get enough of them.  (Martin Shovel, Enthymeme, or Are You Thinking What Im Thinking? The Guardian [UK], April 9, 2015) Antonys Enthymeme in Julius Caesar In that form of enthymeme in which one of the premises is omitted, there is a strong tendency to accept the conclusion without scrutinizing the missing premise on which the argument rests. For example, the plebians, swayed by Antony speaking of Caesar, readily take for granted the conclusion he desires: Plebian: Markd ye his words? He would not take the crown. Therefore tis certain he was not ambitious.[William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar III.ii] They do not question the implicit major premise, A man who refuses a crown is not ambitious. They regard the conclusion as certain.  (Sister Miriam Joseph, Shakespeares Use of the Arts of Language, 1947. Reprinted by Paul Dry Books, 2005) President Bushs Enthymeme In an enthymeme, the speaker builds an argument with one element removed, leading listeners to fill in the missing piece. On May 1, speaking from the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln, President Bush said, The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on September the 11th, 2001, and still goes on. . . . With those attacks, the terrorists and their supporters declared war on the United States. And war is what they got. This is classic enthymematic argumentation: We were attacked on Sept. 11, so we went to war against Iraq. The missing piece of the argumentSaddam was involved in 9/11didnt have to be said aloud for those listening to assimilate its message.  (Paul Waldman, Washington Post, September, 2003) The Daisy Commercial In 1964, politics flip-flopped, and the choice became Vote Democratic or Die. One of the most controversial commercials ever made showed a pretty little girl, all innocence, picking petals off a daisy in a field. In a small, sweet voice, she counts the petals as she pulls them off, One, two, three... When she gets to ten, the picture is frozen, and a mans grim voice begins to count back down from ten (as in a nuclear blast countdown). At zero, the scene dissolves into a nuclear holocaust. Over the mushrooming cloud President, Lyndon Johnsons voice is heard: These are the stakesto make a world in which all Gods children can live or go into the dark. We must either love each other or we must die. Voters got the message: A vote for Johnsons opponent Goldwater is a vote for dead little girls. At last count, partisans of dead little girlhood did not constitute a large percentage of the electorate.  (Donna Woolfolk Cross, Mediaspeak: How Television Makes Up Your Mind. Coward-McCann, 1983 ) Pronunciation: EN-tha-meem

Literature review about ( dose the follow up with one single physician Essay

Literature review about ( dose the follow up with one single physician at diabetic clinic improve the complaiance ) - Essay Example The compliance of diabetic patients is estimated to range from 11% to 93%. It is also estimated that around a third of the total diabetics patients fail to complete their medications. Poor compliance places the patients a t risk of continued disease and also complicates the relationship between the patient and the physician. This article looks at how compliance can depend on the way that a patient relates with the physician. It also looks at the relationship between a patient who only sees one physician and that patient with many physicians and compares their level of compliance based on these facts. It is noted that a one on one relationship is needed for patients to increase their level of compliance. This is because this will enhance better communication between the physician and the patient. Our main question is, can the level of compliance be increased if a patient only has one physician and can the level of compliance be reduced in the event where a patient has many physicians. The article tries to look at 20 articles that deal with health records and try to read and understand the relationship between having one physician and compliance. 20 articles have been looked and out of them 4 have been selected and given a critical appraisal. Introduction Diabetes is a disease that is affecting most people in the world today. Once someone has been diagnosed with diabetes it is always normal for them to come after some to the hospital or health care centers for medication and advice on how to live healthy and what to do and what not to do. When these patients come to the health facilities some hospitals will keep changing their physicians while some will just maintain one physician for every patient, meaning that a patient will only be able to see the physician that he saw on the first date and not keep changing the physician. In this research paper, 20 articles are taken and used to compare the relationship between seeing one physician and seeing different physic ians. The search strategy used in this paper is known as Framing the research question, in this type of search analysis, the question is framed and then put on the search engine for and used to search for the 20 articles. The search terminology used includes â€Å"compliance†, and â€Å"a patient with one physician†. I came up with questions such as â€Å"what is the relationship between having one diabetes patient and compliance in medicine†. Out of this I found thousands of articles and selected 20 articles which I have used for the paper. Later on I selected 4 of the articles and did a thorough analysis of them and came up with the information that will be discussed below. The four articles were selected mainly based on their content and the data that they contain. 20 articles were selected from the internet and used for analysis. There were two searches that were used, the first search was limited to the records of the past 2 years about the patient dropout while the second search was limited to the records of patients who dropped out of their medications or refused medication. The 20 articles that were used for this paper were valid to clinical relevance. It is however important to note that the reliability of the data is not guaranteed since some of the patients don’t report cases of incompliance. This is to say that compliance is lower than reported. According to Elliot (2000, p.120), a research using diabetes patients in England showed that there was 60% compliance. However
